The Bonningtons family came together recently to support the family of Stock Manager, Jonathan King. Jon and his wife Katie have 4 children. One of them, 10 year old Ashton, suffers from severe cerebral palsy and epilepsy. The family are raising money to fund house improvements to enable Ashton to live a more independent life. A through-floor lift would enable Ashton to have his own room upstairs, and make caring for him throughout the night easier. It would also allow him to move around the house with dignity, and do more of the everyday things we all take for granted
Despite the challenges life throws at him, Ashton is a big ball of energy, with a sunny disposition and the ability to make everyone smile. His visits to the Bonningtons offices always cheer us up, so when Jon asked us to help him in his fundraising, of course we were willing to help. When he announced he was going to raise money by shaving off his thick head of hair, this willingness turned to great enthusiasm! Anybody who knows Jon will understand this was not an easy decision to make, but that didn’t stop certain staff members queuing up to lend a helping hand.
So the day came, and to celebrate the occasion the Directors threw a free BBQ for the staff. Surrounded by his work family and his real family, Jon bravely faced his tormentors and allowed Managing Director Ian Fisher, have the first go. Once the first locks fell to the floor, the process seemed easy, and judging by the faces of the shavers, quite enjoyable! It was a nerve-wracking experience, but Jon says he would do it all again if he had to, and of course, it was all worth it for his little boy. The other staff were also very grateful for the delicious cakes Katie made in thanks.
Jon and Katie have a crowdfunding Just Giving page, which can be found here.
